Frequently Asked Questions (and DC Cruises' policies):

About Us.
DC Cruises LLC has been providing cruises in Washington DC since 2006. Our cruise boats are all US Coast Guard certified, and our captains have, on average, more than 12 years of experience.

Age Requirements.
All cruises beginning at 6pm and later have age requirements. The Happy Hour and DJ cruises are adults only. Please check details about the specific cruise you are interested in.

Boarding/Departure Time. Customers usually will be invited to board 10 minutes before the time that appears on your ticket. You are required to ARRIVE AT THE BOARDING LOCATION 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE TIME on your ticket.

Cancellations.
We cruise rain or shine. In the event there are unsafe boating conditions, we'll notify everyone as soon as possible, and offer alternatives.

Cell Phones.
Your cell phone will work on the cruise. We ask, however, that you be considerate of other passengers.

Coast Guard Regulations. Is the vessel Coast Guard certified?
Yes. All our vessels are Coast Guard certified and maintained regularly to adhere to strict safety regulations.

Contacting Us.
For questions or issues, please Email us.
We'll typically respond within 4 hours.

Cruise Route.
All of our cruises travel on the Potomac River in Washington DC. They pass along the Monuments and other famous landmarks (in the spring we also cruise along the Cherry Trees, and in fall along the natural Potomac Gorge area).

Directions.
See the directions link at the left for details.

Discounts. Student, Senior, & Military discounts
Some cruises offer discounts for students, senior and military. If one applies to you, you will be required to show valid [picture] IDs at time of boarding. In the case of student IDs, they must show a date to show they are current. In the case of a senior ID, it must show that the holder is 65+ years. The discount is only applicable to the ID holder, and not to members of his/her group, family, etc.

Drinks. Food. Etc.
Most cruises have a full bar, but no food is offered. [PRIVATE CHARTERS: You may arrange for restaurants and caterers to deliver platters of food. DC Cruises does not charge a service charge, but we do have a small cleanup fee]

Groups. What size group can your boats accommodate?
Our boats can accommodate parties and groups from 15 to 110 guests.

Handicap Access.
Unfortunately the boats are not accessible by wheelchair. Passengers must be able to walk down three steps. However, once aboard, there is room to store wheelchairs and strollers, and in most cases you may sit in them if you prefer.

Minimum # of Passengers Requirement.
On public cruises, whether during day or at night, there is usually a 25 person minimum. This is necessary due to the high cost of running our vessels. Should your cruise need to be cancelled due to lack of participation, we'll offer you a comparable replacement, or, in most cases a full refund. (For private cruises - there is usually no minimum. The boat is all yours since you paid a flat rate by the hour.)

Parking.
For ticketed events: See the page on this site you purchased the ticket from (or the receipt/ticket emailed to you. For Private Charters, please check with your host to see which part of the city your cruise will depart from.

Payment. $/Credit Cards, etc
For individuals, you need to purchase tickets through our web site (you'll need a credit card to purchase them). Groups should review their reservation form or call our office to make arrangements.

Pets.
Unfortunately Fido, and all his distant relatives, is not allowed on-board, except if she is a licensed seeing-eye dog.

Rescheduling.
Please see the page on our site that references your cruise type (usually there is a sentence at the bottom stating make-up choices). If you purchased a voucher or ticket through a 3rd party, their rules would apply. However, for Special Event cruises (Fireworks and Cherry Blossom cruises, etc.) -space was reserved for YOU on these cruises, so tickets are non-changeable.

Reservations.

  • Individuals - MUST purchase tickets through the web site. No orders are taken by phone. Sometimes single tickets are available at the dock at cruise time. DISCOUNTED VOUCHERS: check the instructions on this FAQ page or on your voucher.
  • Groups - Please click the Send Me More information button in the left column (you might need to scroll up to see it).

Seasickness.
It is highly unlikely. The Potomac River is a ‘protected water way’, meaning that it is a fairly narrow waterway (and NOT a broad, open expanse of water such as a bay or ocean). Therefore, the winds and waves tend to be modest. Seasickness is extremely rare.

Seating Arrangements.
Seating is unassigned and on a ‘first come’ basis.

Smoking.
All interior areas of our ship are non-smoking areas. Passengers who smoke may do so ONLY on the rear-outdoor observation deck, subject to the discretion of the Captain and crew.

Substitutions. It's an old sailors' saying that "boats break", and they do! Should the DC Cruises boat(s) be unavailable, DCC may substitute a boat and provide a cruise of equal length (with sufficient capacity if a charter). If no such replacement is available, then unforunately we will not be able to conduct the voyage, and you'll receive a full refund.

Weather.
All of our boats have both outdoor areas and enclosed seating areas. We sail rain or shine.

What to Wear. We suggest you check the weather forecast. For temperatures below 70-degrees, a sweatshirt or jacket is a good idea for the outside decks (although all of our vessels have covered areas). Cruises are casual, though private charters may not be (check with your host!)
